Summary:
Spec sheet
Solution:
Thanks for your Email message. You have contacted Cummins, Inc. at our
Customer Assistance Center located in Columbus, Indiana. This is our
worldwide headquarters and has been our home since Clessie
Cummins founded the company February 3, 1919.
We are sorry but we do not hand out engine specification sheets. We also
make it a point not to publish any "maximum exhaust gas
temperatures".
In marine applications, the only point on the power curve where the power
required by the marine drive and accessories and the maximum power produced by
the engine are the same is determined by the hull manufacturer when designing
the boat and takes into account the marine gear ratio, hull curves at different
waterlines, the propellor curve and accessories
driven.
Unless you have the other information affecting the performance of your boat
the engine power curve is not useful information.
We no longer make the #one brake specific fuel consumption curve public
information. Though accurate, these curves cannot be used to predict fuel
consumption except at the point where the #one power curve crosses the power
demand curve developed by the hull manufacturer.
The curve was badly misrepresented and misunderstood and therefore misleading
to those that tried to use it to predict other than full power fuel condumption.
We thank you for your interest in Cummins products. We occasionally
misunderstand a question. If our answer to your communication looks like
we have misunderstood your e-mail please reply with further inquiry.

cc: Subject: 270B Performance Cuve Spec
Sheet
I called your marine assistance line to get the correct performance curve
spec sheet for my engines and was told I couldnt have
it. I need the data
to properly care for the engines and telling me I cant have it seems silly.
I need to know the max rated EGT. I need to see max HP at different RPM.
My perspective is that everyone should have this data and, with it, there
would be far fewer engine failures due to overload.
I would like you to review this policy and get back to me. I like Cummins, I
love the service success Ive had with these engines,
I even like the parts
prices but I do need the information to properly maintain them and I would
like to get it from you without extensive negotiation if at all possible.
Basically, I believe my request is reasonable and in Cummins best interest.
Could you get back to me on this? Thanks for your time,
--jrh
P.S. Should you chose to release the sheet I'm after
it's for this engine:
45828546 (build date 3/23/1999) -- CPL: 2205.
