Celebrating the Zoox Hayward plant entering its start of production phase. This 220,000 square foot state of the art manufacturing plant in Hayward, California will be capable of assembling 10,000 robotaxis annually with a peak output of 100 units per week. It’s great to see this innovative vehicle fabricated in America and another step closer to scaling up the service. After spending the morning going through the details at the factory, I spent an hour and a half booking Zoox rides throughout the most congested and difficult streets in San Francisco. The robotaxi drove with a smoothness and precision that belied the fact we were operating without a driver or even a place for a driver to sit. My excitement with the mechanics of the experience quickly disappeared into the background as we slipped slipped through all the usual complexities of San Francisco driving. Just wonderful!
Like John, I haven’t heard of this company but it sure sounds very promising James. My eyes were immediately draw to a blast from the past, the Dirona Around the World video. What an adventure that turned out to be. The bladder blockage/flooding incident and poor Jennifer with that springline snap now feel like another lifetime ago. Thanks for sharing.
Your 100% right Stewart. Taking a small boat around the world was a wonderful set of experiences. Some educational, some exhilarating, and some stressful. Overall, an amazing experience.
As a total Luddite, I have no idea what Zoox is all about. I have read a number of reports about Waymo’s burgeoning robotaxi efforts and Tesla’s less impressive start up effort, but I did not knows there is another serious entrant.
Zoox, byline is “it’s not a car, it’s a robotaxi designed around you.” I’m excited by their progress and I think robotaxis are going to be important for how residents move around in cities.
