Tips, Tweaks, and Techniques

The hard reset to clear back to factory state on a HTC Tornado is to turn the unit on while holding the two soft keys down.  You will be promoted to press "0" to clear system to factory state.  http://www.pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21191.

Update default resolution and other WMP settings by changing \Windows\WMSyncCaps.xml.  http://www.spv-developers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=338.

When I set an alarm, it's because I need to get up.  Unfortunately, the alarm only rings once by default.  If you use a registry editor and go to the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Clock" and add string value key "Script".  Set it's value to "av0pr" and it'll ring until you cancel it with vibrate.  Use "apr" for continuous ring without vibrate and use "apw10r" for a ring every 10 seconds without vibrate.  See http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=7695&hl=shutdown+restart for more information.

Are you Interested in whether you are currently getting GPRS or EDGE coverage?  The carriers don't appear to want you to know so most phones default to just showing "G" for GRPS.  If you change the registry key HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon to "1" you'll get a "G" for GPRS coverage and an "E" when you have Edge.HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon => 1

Change the sound played at system startup or shutdown: HKLM\Software\HTC\Startup\WAV and HKLM\Software\HTC\Shutdown\WAV. HKLM\Software\HTC\Startup\WAV.

HTC America maintains a Wiki at: http://www.htcwiki.com/.  The T-Mobile SDA Wiki is at:HTC America Wiki http://www.htcwiki.com/page/T-Mobile+SDA and the Cingular 2125 is at: http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Cingular+2125.

Clearview is a Windows Mobile reader for PDF, Word, Powerpoint, and Excell.  HTC offers it without charge on their support web site: http://www.htcamerica.net/.

For registry editor, I recommend PHM Registry Editor.  If you can't install it, see the unlocking section.
